A Surprise Glacier National Park Proposal | Rylie & Corey


There is something so special about photographing a proposal — especially when I get to help someone bring a very specific vision to life.

When Corey reached out to me about proposing to his fiancé, Rylie, he already had a pretty clear idea of what he wanted. The two of them were traveling all the way from North Carolina for a vacation in Glacier National Park, and he knew he wanted the proposal to feel distinctly Montana: mountain views, a classic Western feel, and, most importantly, a little privacy.

Rylie isn't a fan of crowds, so finding a location that felt intimate while still giving them that iconic Glacier National Park scenery was important. I had a spot in mind that checked every box.


Planning the Perfect Surprise

Of course, a surprise proposal takes a little more planning than simply showing up at a beautiful location.

In the weeks leading up to their trip, Corey and I communicated about the details of the proposal and made a plan for exactly where he would go and how the moment would unfold. We even talked through the logistics of getting down on one knee — because when you're trying to pull off a completely unexpected proposal, there are a surprising number of little details to think about!

We also had subtle cues planned for the day of the proposal so I could make sure Corey was in the perfect spot when the moment arrived.

The best part? Rylie had absolutely no idea.


A Photographer in Disguise

I had already been at the park that day, photographing a friend, which gave me the perfect excuse to be in the area without raising any suspicion.

So while Rylie thought she was simply enjoying a beautiful day in Glacier National Park with Corey, I was nearby, camera in hand, waiting for the moment.

And then Corey got down on one knee.

Her reaction was everything.

There was surprise, disbelief, laughter, and so much emotion all happening at once. Those first few seconds are one of my favorite parts of photographing proposals because there is nothing posed about them. It's just two people realizing that their lives are about to change.

After Rylie said yes, we didn't rush into portraits or immediately move on to the next thing. We took a few minutes to simply let them soak it all in.

And honestly, those quiet moments afterward may have been some of my favorites.


A Glacier National Park Proposal to Remember

For couples traveling to Glacier National Park from out of state, I think there is something incredibly meaningful about choosing a place like this for such an important moment.

Corey and Rylie's proposal wasn't about having a crowd of people watching or creating an elaborate production. It was about the two of them, surrounded by Montana mountains, in a place that felt like them.


That is exactly what I love about photographing proposals and elopements in Glacier National Park. The location can be breathtaking, but the real story is always the people standing in front of the camera.

And I'm so honored that Corey trusted me to help create this little piece of their story — and keep the biggest secret from Rylie. 🤎
