In-Home Newborn Session in the Flathead Valley, Montana | Baby Ava

There’s nothing quite like photographing a newborn at home — in the space where you’re actually living the early days. The quiet moments, the tiny details, the real-life snuggles… it all tells the story so honestly.

McKenzie welcomed me into their home for a cozy lifestyle newborn session in the Flathead Valley, Montana, and sweet baby Ava absolutely stole the show.

A calm, cozy session at home

One of my favorite parts about in-home newborn sessions is how relaxed they feel. You don’t have to pack up a diaper bag, worry about being on time somewhere, or stress about a “perfect” house. We go at baby’s pace — with breaks for feeding, soothing, diaper changes, and all the little pauses newborn life requires.

Mom and dad were so natural together — the kind of calm love you can feel in the room. We focused on simple, timeless images: snuggles in the nursery, sweet family cuddles on the bed, and those tiny details you never want to forget.

The little details you’ll want to remember forever

Newborns change so fast, and these are the things that always end up meaning the most later:

  • tiny fingers wrapped around mom’s hand
  • fuzzy shoulders and baby stretches
  • the way dad instinctively holds baby close
  • the soft, quiet moments between everyone

Ava was the snuggliest little thing, and the session felt peaceful and warm — the kind of morning you wish you could bottle up and keep.

What to wear for in-home newborn photos

If you’re planning a newborn session in the Flathead Valley, here’s what photographs beautifully in-home:

  • neutrals + soft tones (cream, beige, gray, muted earth tones)
  • simple textures (knits, linen, cotton)
  • minimal logos/patterns to keep it timeless
  • And if you’re ever unsure, I help with outfit guidance so it’s one less thing on your brain.
